During a stay in the farmhouse it’s impossibile not to follow this splendid road, on which the wine making traditions bond with the multiple villages (Volpaia or Montefioralle) and castles (mostly visitables) which frame a splendid hilly view.
The fame of wine produced in the Chianti region dates back to far away times. In 1716 the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III was forced to put in a notification the limits of the borderlines of Chianti, the first legal document ever that defines a wine production area. But it wasn’t enough! People kept producing fake Chianti everywhere and so, on the 14 of May in 1924, a group of producers from Chianti met in Radda in Chianti to start an organisation to defend and value their production founding the “Consorzio per la difesa”, that changed name through the years until the actual social reason “Consorzio del Marchio Storico- Chianti Classico”, caracterised by the young cock on the label situated on the neck of the bottle.
The origins for the determination of the borderlines of “Chinati Classico” are told in a legend that talks about the historical rivalries between in the Siena and Florence medieval
period. |

However Chianti is not only famous because of the wine but also for its
hospitality; in fact it is possible to find many typical tuscanian restaurants where you can eat a high quality Florentine
steak.
Some of the important dates are:
• Antiques market on Easter Monday in the Piazza of Greve in Chianti;
• The passage of the historical Millemiglia (second last week of Maggio), where classic cars run all the Chiantigiana road;
• On the last week of May the date is at “Cantine Aperte”, where it is possible to visit the farmhouse and taste its excellent
wines;
